North Sea Subsea Data Connection – Lowestoft

Working with M & M Contractors on a contract for euNetworks as part of the Scylla Lowestoft cable landing, Gmac Utilities Ltd were engaged to drill under Parkfield Beach in Lowestoft to protect important beach vegetation. and allow connection to take place between the offshore inbound cable and the beach manhole installed by M & M contractors.

The euNetworks Scylla Subsea Project connects the UK and the Netherlands. This is the first subsea cable system between the UK and the Netherlands since 1999.

One big constraint was having to work within the tide times as the pipe could only be pulled into place at low tide. Using one of our JT60AT rock drills, we were able to steer through the beach shingle without issue.

The job was completed in good time for the cable to be connected without delay.
