Water Main Replacement – Oban

Gmac Utilities working with AG Wilson on a project for the Caledonian Water Alliance were contracted to drill two shots in Oban.

The shots required drilling through tough Scottish rock and up a 30m elevation and under the Oban rail line.

The chosen drill was the Ditch Witch JT100 rock drill and it was operated by two experienced Gmac drill teams.

Slow going at times in the rock, the crews worked 24 hours a day to stay in schedule.

The teams completed the task incident free and in good time for the project to continue.

Caledonian Water Project Manager Terrry O’Bryne quoted about the scheme  “Pretty much achieved here what others considered impossible. It was border line or just over it. Not many understood the complexities and risk involved…”
