Power Line Ducts – Glastonbury

Gmac Utilities Ltd were trusted by Western Power to drill two shots for four ducts under the live M5 motorway for a new housing development.

Gmac utilised a gyro guided steering system with the 8″ pilot to maintain accuracy within millimetres, and to achieve the project as the motorway had to remain live. This was followed by 12″, 16″ & 18″ hole openers.

Another added challenge was that the launch pit needed to be on a flood plain so 218 temporary road mats were positioned to allow safe access to and from the site.
